Local Donation Effort For Hurricane Milton Victims Begins This Week

Less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene made landfall on September 26th plowing through the South, a second hurricane ravished the southern landscape.

Hurricane Milton made landfall on October 9th on the west coast of Florida, knocking out power to more than 3 million customers and whipping up 150 tornado warnings.

As the region begins to recover and rebuild, a second local donation effort by Franklin Township will be accepting items for Hurricane Milton victims beginning on October 14th.

Donations will be accepted October 14– October 18 (Monday – Friday) from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Franklin Township Municipal Building; 897 Route 288, Fombell PA 16123.

Please bring only new items on the list shown on the flyer. If there are any questions, please text 724-614-3976.

  • Tools/batteries and first aid kits
  • Paper towels
  • Disposable plates and utensils
  • Cleaning supplies

The project is again being planned and coordinated by Riverside graduate Gabrielle Gretch.  Special thanks is given to Franklin Township and Triple G Storage for their services.

According to a government website, Milton is part of trend of rapid intensification in hurricanes such as Helene two weeks ago, the 4th deadliest storm to make landfall in the United States since 1950. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services said on Saturday that it had verified 93 storm-related deaths. In total, the storm has killed at least 234 people across six states.
