Mr. Norman L. Giancola, Sr., 95, of New Wilmington, formerly of North Sewickley Township, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Avalon Care Center.
Norman was born on October 28, 1928, in Ellwood City, to the late Clemente and Anna D.(Perrotta) Giancola. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1946 and from Geneva College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Norman is a veteran of the United States Air Force with the rank of Sergeant. He then joined the United States Air Force Reserves, where he retired as a Major from the 9-11th airlift wing, at the Pittsburgh air reserves station. Norman was employed by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board in Pittsburgh as a savings and loan examiner from 1954 until 1974, when he was promoted to District Director until his retirement in 1986. After retirement, Norman worked for Ellwood Savings Bank in Ellwood City as an internal audit vice president.
Norman served as a North Sewickley Township Supervisor for 18 years. He was a member of Divine Grace Parish/Holy Redeemer Church and belonged to its Holy Name Society and Special Activities Group and served on the Holy Redeemer Finance Committee. He also belonged to the Ellwood City Wolves Club and Ellwood City Lions Club. Norman enjoyed photography, gardening, model airplanes and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Mrs. Rose Marie (Wilson) Giancola, whom he married on October 2, 1948; daughters, Agnes Campanale of Youngstown, Deborah Giancola of Ross Township, Darlene (Don) Kotuby of New Wilmington, Patrice Giancola of Ross Township and Anita (Dean) Lutz of Neshannock Township; a son, Norman L. (Sonya) Giancola Jr., of Watkinsville, GA; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Melissa Giancola; a granddaughter, Kimberly Kotuby; and brothers, Clem, Cosmo and Peter Giancola.
Visitation will be held on Friday OCTOBER 18TH, from 4-6 p.m. at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. A Mass of Christian burial will take place of Saturday OCTOBER 19TH, at 11:00 a.m. at Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church with Father James Wehner Officiating. Interment will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery where full Military honors will be conducted. Members of the Honor Guard are asked to meet at the cemetery on October 19th by 11:50 a.m. Members of the Holy Name, Wolves Club, Special Activities Group, and Knights of Columbus are asked to meet at the funeral home on Friday October 18th by 5:45 p.m. to conduct a service at 5:50 p.m..
