Mr. Darryl E. Ruby Sr., 85, of East Palestine, Ohio passed away on Sunday, September 29th,2024 at the Heritage Valley Medical Center in Beaver.
Mr. Ruby was born in New Brighton on May 6th, 1939 to the late Norman and Cleora (Funkhouser) Ruby. Darryl graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1957. On December 10th, 1962 Darryl enlisted with the United States Army and served until his honorable discharge on June 17th, 1963 earning the rank of Private E2. He had worked as a retail bread salesman for Liberty Bakery, the Babcock & Wilcox steel mill in Beaver Falls for 14 years as a tool and die maker, Gada Machine in Edgebrook, and lastly at Double R Plastics in New Castle. Darryl is a 32 Degree Mason and served as Master of the Meridian Lodge #411 in Enon Valley in 2001 and 2002. He is also a member of the Syria Shriners in Cheswick, Eastern Star, American Legion Post 749 in Wampum where he had served as Commander, Lawrence County American Legion also as Commander, Chef de Gar 40/8 of Lawrence County, Endowment Member of the NRA, Scottish Rite Cathedral in New Castle, charter member of the Veterans Honor Guard, honorary life member of the Koppel Big Beaver Sportsman’s Club, and enjoyed racing motorcycles in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years Jean (Stevenson) Ruby whom he married on December 31st, 1964, daughter Dawn (John) Lonzenski of Raleigh, North Carolina, son Darryl Ruby Jr. (Deirdre Mitchell) of Monaca, and his sisters Laraine (Richard) Pistorius and Darla Hedges both of Koppel.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1-3 pm at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.. Interment will be at the Clinton Cemetery. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the funeral home on Thursday by 2:50 pm to conduct military honors.
