Jordan Keller collected the MAC Individual Championship on Tuesday afternoon at Fox Run Golf Course. The junior golfer finished with a 4-under round of 68.
The individual performance helped pace the boys golf team to a 5th place finish among the 24 participating teams.
“What a fantastic round against some great local high school competition,” said head coach Sam Barry after the championship.
Keller is the first Ellwood City boys individual to win the MAC championship in over two decades.
“Jordan has been improving each season, he is constantly working on his golf game. Each year he has continued to improve. I am extremely proud of him both on and off the course. Jordan is a great kid and team player. He continues to push himself and his teammates”
Nate Kennedy tied for 9th place with a 3-over round of 75 for Ellwood City.
The Wolverines team consisted on Keller, Kennedy and Braden Roberts who combined for a team score of 233.
West Allegheny took the overall top team spot with a team score of 225. Mars (226), Moon (228), Quaker Valley (231) and Ellwood City rounded out the top five team results. Riverside finished with a team total of 249 in the championship.
The boys golf team also knocked off Neshannock 208-217 on Monday to continue its unbeaten streak. The team now holds a 14-0 overall record, including a perfect 10-0 in section play.
GIRLS GOLF:
The Ellwood City girls golf team posted a team low score for the year, but was knocked off by North Catholic 185-219 on Tuesday. Rori Minerd and Rylee Prestopine each fired rounds of 53 to pace the Lady Wolverines. Romy Westlund (55), Sophia Reagan (58), and Shaelyn Freed (68) rounded out the scoring. Ellwood City (1-9 overall) next faces Beaver Area on Wednesday afternoon.
GIRLS TENNIS:
Ellwood City girls tennis team knocked off its rival Riverside 4-1 in a match on Monday afternoon
Kailyn Hamilton (6-1, 6-1, over Molly Linville), Tessa Folino (6-4, 6-2 over Beha Zona) and Mia Meredith (6-3, 6-1 over Abby Cook) all earned straight set victories in singles play.
Sophia Agnew & Kiley LeViere (4-6, 6-2, 6-1) earned a doubles victory for Ellwood City. Riverside earned a doubles victory as Hailey Whipple & Kyleigh Pron (6-4, 7-5) earned a match victory for the Panthers.
Ellwood City (2-3 Overall) next travels for Section Singles on Wednesday.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL:
The Lady Wolverines volleyball team defeated Mohawk on Tuesday evening, improving its regular season mark to 4-2 overall.
The team rallied to beat the Warriors after dropping its opening set. Ellwood City responded by winning three straight sets 25-15, 25-22, and 25-11 to earn the section victory. The Lady Wolverines will next travel to face Laurel on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
