Due to the tragic circumstances surrounding an unexpected death of a Shenango student this week, the Ellwood City varsity football game versus Shenango scheduled for Friday has been postponed.
“First, and most importantly, our thoughts, prayers and support are directed toward our friends at Shenango,” said Ellwood City Superintendent Wes Shipley in an emailed statement.
“We are deeply saddened to acknowledge that a 17-year-old student at Shenango High School tragically passed away yesterday evening,” Superintendent Dr. Joseph McCormick said in a statement Wednesday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family and friends.”
Ellwood City is attempting to reschedule its home game Friday with an available opponent.
If no game is able to be scheduled for Friday, the Wolverines will next travel to Neshannock on Friday, September 6th to continue its non-conference play before opening up its Class 2A conference schedule on September 13th when they host the Mohawk Warriors.
The Wolverines opened up its regular season with a 14-7 overtime victory over Laurel last week.
