Mrs. Joann L. Docchio, 94, formerly of Koppel, and Trinity Oaks in Ellwood, passed away at the UPMC Jameson Nursing & Rehab Center on August 9th, 2024.
Mrs. Docchio was born on July 14th, 1930 to the late Harold C. and Anna (Houk) Marshall. She was a working mother of five, Painting plates, cups, and dishes at Mayer China in Beaver Falls before owning and operating the Paramount Cafe in Wampum for over 20 years through the worst economic times of the 70’s and 80’s. She played catcher until her early 50’s for McDowell’s women’s softball team, bowled at Park Lanes and Sim’s, and sang in the Ellwood City Civic Chorale for many years.
She enjoyed reading, expert level Sudoku, crosswords, and gardening; spent hours bird watching and laughing at the squirrels trying to raid the feeders. She watched every Pirate, Penguin, and Steeler game even when they were terrible, and sat through countless youth sports games from Pee-Wees to High-School.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenneth Docchio (Dodo) whom she married on January 27th, 1951, and passed away on December 4th, 2007, daughter, Jill D. Docchio, sister, Norma Marshall and Ruth Albert, and brothers, Howard, Donald, William, Glenn, Mervin, and Paul Marshall.
Survived by her daughters, Mary Ann and John (“Jack”) Barberio of Fort Collins, CO, Jan and (Eric Rogers) of San Francisco, sons, Eugene “Skip” (Jackie Carr) Docchio of Hubbard, OH, and Kenneth (Karen) Docchio of Ellwood City, grandchildren, William Docchio, Dana Hawkey, Justin, Jeremey, and Jeffrey Barberio, and Keaton, Kelton, and Kaden Docchio, and 9 great-grandchildren.
A visitation for close family and friends only will be held on Tuesday, August 13th, 2024 from 3:00 pm until the time of memorial service at 5:00 pm at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.. Inurnment will follow at the Slippery Rock Cemetery.
Donations in Mrs. Docchio’s name may be made out to the Ellwood City Area public library.
