Gabe Lilly Among Three Area Athletes Competing At Fargo Nationals This Month

Ellwood City wrestler Gabe Lilly is among three area athletes competing out of Ellwood City High School’s Wrecking Crew Wrestling Club competing in the US Marine Corps Junior & 16U Nationals in Fargo, N.D. this month.

The Fargo Nationals is the most elite national tournament for high school athletes and the tournament runs from July 13-20th, featuring both boys and girls brackets in a variety of weight classes and styles.

As a soon-to-be Ellwood City senior student-athlete, Lilly finished in 6th place in Freestyle and finished as runner up in Greco Roman also qualifying for the PA wrestling team participating at the Fargo Nationals.

Lilly will wrestle at 165 lbs in the Junior Greco-Roman competition.

Emma Cunningham, from Beaver Area, finished 1st in Greco Roman at the state tournament for the girls and Carmine Battaglia, from BCCS, also qualified for Team PA 16U boys team finishing top 4 in Greco Roman.

All three will represent Team PA at Fargo North Dakota with the opportunity to be an All-American. There are over three thousand high school wrestlers competitors from across the country.

The competition kicks off on July 13 with 16U and Junior Girls battling in the championship and consolation rounds. On July 14, the girls’ semifinals, medal matches, and championship finals take place. July 15 marks the start of the Junior Boys Freestyle matches, followed by the 16U Boys Freestyle rounds. The boys’ freestyle continues until July 17, culminating in their championship finals. From July 19 to July 20, the focus shifts to Greco-Roman wrestling, with Junior Boys and 16U Boys competing in championship and consolation rounds, ending with their finals on the last day.
