The winners of the Community Garden Coloring Contest gathered together on Thursday, May 2nd outside of the Municipal Building to claim their prizes and view their artwork.
The winners were chosen from a wide variety of entries, each with its own unique style.
This year’s winners are as follows:
- 4-6 year old age group: Savannah Honsaker
- 7-9 year old age group: Lena Ierino
- 10-12 year old age group: Gabriella Parson
The artists were awarded a $50 prize sponsored by Borough Manager, Kevin Swogger.
“I enjoy looking at the entries for the contest each year and seeing the amazing talent our young residents possess. It makes me happy to be able to support the youth of our community,” said Swogger in an e-mailed statement.
The contest is held each year by the Public Works Department.
“The kids always have such amazing visions of what the Community Garden is all about. It’s wonderful to view our town through the eyes of the children,” said Rhiannon Schnell, Secretary of Public Works and coordinator of the project.
If you happen to be near the Community Garden at Five Points, be sure to check out the artwork that decorates the utility shed. The tiny hands with big hearts produced amazing images for our community again this year!
I’m so proud of Lena. She is on your way as a professional artist at a very young age, which is a GOOD thing. I will have to show her my big book of events and artwork accomplished along my journey.
