EC Boys, RHS Girls Each Collect 2nd Place Finishes At 2024 Beaver County Championships

The Ellwood City Boys and Riverside Girls Track and Field Teams each collected 2nd Place finishes At Beaver County Championships Saturday at Helling Stadium.

The Wolverine boys finished with 83 team points on the afternoon while the Panther girls collected 84.5 points.

For Ellwood City, the four man relay team of Nick Wise, Bradley Custer, Drew Steffler, and Colten Crizer posted a 1st place finish in the Boys 4×800 Meter Relay (8:28.62).

The foursome of Crizer, Huth, Wise and Nick Franitti also finished 2nd in the Boys 4×400 Meter Relay with a time of 3:34.94.

Franitti also shined individually for Ellwood City on the track, earning a 1st Place finish in the Boys 300m Hurdles (41.41) and 2nd Place finish in the Boys 110m Hurdles (16.67). Crizer (2:06.78) and Custer (2:07.51) finished 2nd and 4th respectively in the Boys 800m.

Riverside Panther runner Devin Montileone finished 4th Place in the Boys 3200m (10:11.71)

For the Lady Panthers, Lexi Fluharty shined individually with a 1st Place finishes in the Girls 3200m (12:31.54), Girls 1600m (5:48.70) and in the Girls 800m (2:38.49).

Brooke Wissinger (5:56.23) placed 3rd in the Girls 1600m.

The Riverside Girls 4×800 Meter relay team (Christina Valencia, Isabella D’Alessandro, Wissinger, and Fluharty) finished 2nd overall with a time of 11:20.82.

In the field, Riverside shined with top finishes in both the girls and boys discus throws. Olivia Reed (88-01) took the top mark in the Girls Discuss Throw while Carson Emerick earn 1st place in the Boys Discus Throw (133-02).

Reed also earned 1st Place in the Girls Javelin Throw (91-03) and 4th in the Girls Shot Put (33-00.50). Emerick finished 3rd Overall In the Boys Javelin Throw (137-11).

In the field for Ellwood City, Delaney Sturgeon placed 1st Overall in the Girls High Jump (4-11), 3rd Overall in the Girls Pole Vault (8-03), and 4th Overall in the Girls Long Jump (14-11). Nate Williams earned a 1st place finish int he Boys Triple Jump (41-01) and placed 2nd Overall in the Boys Long Jump (19-01).

The Blackhawk Cougars collected 1st place team finishes for both boys and girls. The Riverside Boys team finished 7th Overall while the Ellwood City Girls team finished tied for 9th Overall.

Sixteen schools participated in the championships which were moved to Helling Stadium from the originally scheduled Riverside Memorial Stadium due to weather conditions.
