Lloyd E. ‘Skip’ Haswell Jr., 79

Skip Haswell, 79, of Nokomis, Florida, went to be with the Lord on the morning of March 4 2024.

Born October 18 1944 in Ellwood City, PA, the son of Lloyd E. Sr. and Norma (Bubb) Haswell . Skip graduated from Lincoln High School class of 1964 and enlisted in the US Marine Corps, training at Parris Island, Camp Pendleton and Okinawa Jungle Warfare Training Center before serving in Vietnam as a Sergeant in Alpha Company 1st Battalion 1st Marines operating out of Chu Lai airbase 1966-‘67.

Returning home, he joined the Beaver Falls Police Dept., married Pamela Hysell and earned an Associates Degree in Criminology from Community College of Beaver County. He was named Policeman of the Year in 1970 and founded the first canine unit in Beaver County with his K-9 Shane. As police captain he trained with the US Secret Service, FBI and the drugs and narcotics school. He was President of the Fraternal Order of Police – Lodge 4 and on the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police. Haswell became Beaver Falls Chief of Police in 1984.

After retiring from the police dept. in 1989 he worked as Director of Marketing at Medic Rescue Ambulance Service, Emergency Defensive Driver’s Trainer and as deputy coroner with the Beaver County Coroner’s Office on call 24/7. He was the president and founder of the Vietnam Veterans of America – Beaver County Chapter 862 with over 800 members. In 2003 Haswell was named Vietnam Veteran of the Year by the Pennsylvania State Council.

Skip was also heavily involved in local youth sports coaching Chippewa Indians football teams, baseball, Blackhawk girls basketball and many of his daughters’ softball teams.

Preceded in death by his parents, siblings Elaine Haswell, Carol Wilfong and David T. Haswell. Surviving are his wife Pamela Haswell, daughters Nicole (Drew) Kosco and Marci (Greg) Mazenko, son William ‘Skipper’ Haswell, his sister Tracie L. Haswell Todd and many loving grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He will be fondly remembered as a devoted dog lover, antique Corvette enthusiast, doo-wop/oldies/Beach Boys aficionado and lover of God, Country, Corps… and most of all, his family. Thank you Skip for a life of service to your communities. Welcome to Valhalla. Semper Fi.

There will be a memorial service with full military honors at a later date in Western Pennsylvania.

    Pam, So sorry for your loss. Bob just completed back surgery. He’s still in recovery. I’m at the hospital still. Let us know when and where the service is. If I can do anything, let me know!

    My condolences to the Haswell family. I remember my time fondly with Coach Skip on the Blackhawk Lady Cougars basketball team. It was a privilege to have him as an assistant coach/JV coach. Thanks for your military and public service, Coach.

    Many of my childhood memories hanging with Nicole include you. I will never forget the ski trip to the Poconos and the lost car keys. Thanks for being a supportive coach and an all-around warm and caring person. RIP.
