Mr. James N. Higgins, 87, of Fombell passed away on Sunday, February 25th, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Higgins was born on November 10th, 1936 in Ellwood City to the late Earl and Dorothy (Skewis) Higgins. He had attended Lincoln High School and then enlisted with the United States Marine Corps on January 30th, 1954 and served until his honorable discharge on January 29th, 1957 with the rank of Corporal, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Following his service with the Marines, Jim worked for Halstead Industries in Zelienople, the Babcock & Wilcox Steel Mill in Ambridge until it closed, then for BNZ Materials in Zelienople all three places as a millwright. An avid sports fan Jim especially liked watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers. He also enjoyed spending time in his garden.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Donna (Grady) Higgins whom he married on September 22nd, 1956, daughter Joy (Bill) Hart of Fombell, sons James Higgins of Fombell and Todd Higgins of Monaca, grandchildren Christopher (Trista) Higgins of Wisconsin, Shannon (James) Brown of Ellwood City, Kayla Hart and her fiancé Ben Lordi, and Evan Hart of Fombell, three great-grandchildren, and his brother Richard Higgins of New Castle.
Mr. Higgins was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Elek Brown, sister and brother-in-law Sally and Matt Copper, and brother and sister-in-law Harry and Joyce Higgins.
Following James’s wishes there will not be a public service. The final arrangements are entrusted to the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc..
Memorial contributions in Mr. Higgin’s name may be made to the charity of the donors choosing.
