Louise E. Newman, 86

Louise E. Newman, 86, of North Sewickley Township passed away peacefully on Friday, February 2, 2024 at her home. Born September 13, 1937 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Ruth Hazen Lersch.

Louise graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955, and then off to nursing school at St. Francis in New Castle. During her working career, she worked as a Registered Nurse at Jameson Hospital and Ellwood City Hospital. In addition, Louise was a maternity ward nurse at Mary Evans Hospital. She has told many stories about delivering babies before the doctors could arrive. Later in her career she worked for Dr. Lydell in his office. After her boys were raised, she went back to nursing at the Ellwood City School District as a substitute nurse.

Louise and Mike were high school sweethearts. Shortly after getting married they welcomed two baby boys and 10 years later another boy. Louise was a full-time mom to Todd, Scott and Adam. She made daily home cooked meals for the family. Clams and linguine, steak, city chicken, braciole, and American pizza were some favorites. Louise was amazing in the kitchen. Every meal was a big event, cloth napkins, bread basket, table fully set, salads, and some sort of dessert usually! When she wasn’t toting the boys to sports, she enjoyed sunbathing in her swimming pool and gardening in the backyard.

Throughout Louise’s life she enjoyed golfing, gardening, bowling, crossword puzzles, games on the iPad, growing indoor plants and traveling. Louise spent many years at their cottage in Conneaut Lake. She loved having family and friends come for weekend trips. Louise was always up for a trip to the beach with her family. She traveled to Hilton Head Island, Nags Head and Captiva Island year after year. Louise and Mike would make their annual trip to London to meet with Jane and Peter, her sister and brother-in-law. The four of them would then adventure off throughout Europe to visit exotic places like Egypt, Turkey, Istanbul, Nile River, Paris and Germany just to name a few.

Louise adored many pets during her life. She had many dogs and cats, a few favorites were her three poodles Angel, Jemima and Kramer.

Louise enjoyed life to the max and was always on the go down the hill of Churchill Plan. Louise would be seen driving her red convertible Geo tracker with bubbles and eyelashes on it. She loved shopping at Marshall and TJ Maxx with her best friend Marlene. She was always adventuring with Mike to see her grandkids events. You might have seen her little red car at the fence at the Riverside football field watching a track meet or football games. She loved entertaining and having friends to her home, either around the pool or in the basement bar at her home on Morningstar Drive. Upon moving to the condo, Louise loved spending time with her new neighbors around the fire pit.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years Mike J. Newman whom she married on January 23, 1960; three sons, M. Todd (Rachelle) of New Brighton, D. Scott (Bridget) of Mars, and P. Adam (Lori) Newman of Franklin Township; sister, Jane (Peter) Noble of London; brother, John Lersch of New Castle; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Nicoline), Trent, Ian, Sydney, Sean, MacKenzie, and Brady; one great-granddaughter Jadeyn.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday February 5, 2024 from 3:00 pm until the time of the Funeral Service at 5:00 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.
