Those who drive near the Beaver River Bridge Replacement Project are beginning to notice that construction of the new bridge over the Beaver River is now underway.
The contractor is currently constructing new abutment footings and drilled shafts, pier footings and columns. Additionally, earthwork and drainage work continues to allow for the wider road and the new interchange ramps being constructed.
Accordingly, Turnpike travel lanes have been shifted southward to accommodate the new bridge and roadway construction. Also, a temporary ramp configuration has been established since November impacting eastbound traffic going on and off the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76) and Big Beaver Boulevard (PA Route 18) to allow for the construction of a new interchange system.
Meanwhile, Big Beaver Boulevard reconstruction has begun. Traffic is currently using one-lane in each direction on the Southbound side, with northbound traffic utilizing a cross-over. River Road will be reduced intermittently to a single lane controlled by flaggers to allow for access to the construction site. Thompson Run Road has been closed since July 17, 2023, with a short detour posted until it reopens this coming summer.
Construction is still expected to be fully completed in September 2027 on the $294M multiphase project involving the total reconstruction and widening of two miles (Milepost 12 and Milepost 14) of the Turnpike’s east-west mainline nearest the Exit 13 Beaver Valley (Beaver Falls/Ellwood City) interchange.
