Ellwood City Historical Society To Award Four Scholarships

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will award four (4) fifteen hundred dollar ($1,500.00) scholarships this year.

All graduating seniors living in the Ellwood City Area School District or the Riverside School District are eligible. Applications and requirements may be obtained from either high school Guidance Counselor, or from the Ellwood City Area Historical Society. The History Center at 310 5th Street is open Monday through Thursday from 10 am until 2 pm. Scholarship competitors may make appointments to use the History Center’s research facilities by calling 724-752-2021.

There will be two (2) $1500.00 Robert and Janice Barensfeld Scholarships awarded and two (2) $1500.00 Marlene Painter awards given.

Applicants applying for the Robert and Janice Barensfeld Scholarships must write an essay on the topic “Prominent Person of the Ellwood City Area.” Applicants for the Marlene Painter Scholarships must plan to enroll in an Education curriculum in the college of their choosing and present an essay on the topic “Why I Want to be a Teacher.

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society has issued $82,000.00 in scholarships in the past. It is our privilege to continue assisting those advancing their education and taking advantage of our funding.

Applications and essays must be returned to the History Society before 12:00 noon, Monday, April 1, 2024.
