Boy Scouts Troop 806 Sharing The Peace Light This Week

The Boy Scouts in Troop 806 will be sharing the Peace Light this week on Monday and Tuesday evening.

The Peace Light is a continuously-burning flame originating from lil lamps that have burned over 1,000 years in the Grotto of the Nativity, where Jesus was born. The flame is carried from Bethlehem by an Austrian scout during Advent and is passed from person-to-person by scouting organizations around the world. By Christmas Day, the Peace Light and an accompanying message of global peace and harmony reach almost every country in Europe and much of the United States and Canada.

The 2023 Peace Light arrived in New York on December 3rd on an Austria Airlines jet. It was passed to Ellwood City BSA Scout Troop 806 the next day, on December 4th. The Scouts will keep the flame burning until Christmas and are excited to share it with the community.

The Peace Light is a flame that originates from lanterns in the Grotto of the Nativity where Jesus was born. It is carried from Bethlehem each Advent and spread throughout the world by scouting organizations as a symbol of international hope and peace.

The Boys Scouts Troop 806 invites you to take the Peace Light into your home during Advent and share it with friends and family. Please bring a lantern or glass-enclosed candle to safely transport the light.

The scouts will be at First United Methodist Church, Crescent Avenue, Elllwood City, on Monday, December 18th and Tuesday, December 19th from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please use the downstairs entrance.

To make other arrangements to receive the light, please email the troop at troop06peacelight@gmail.com
