Milestone Birthdays Celebrated

Celebrating their 85th and 90th birthdays this year, Dona and Don Boots, Sr. of North Sewickley Township attribute their good health and long lives to staying active and trusting in the Lord, thanking Him daily for His goodness over their lives.

They met as teenagers in the Rustic Park area of North Sewickley township and have lived in the same area since their marriage in 1956, celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary this year. They were united in marriage by Rev. Daniel Ratzlaff of the Ellwood City Church of God and are still part of the Ellwood City Church of God family today.

Don retired from Standard Horse Nail Company where he worked as a machine operator. After retiring, he developed his woodworking skills and has made countless beautiful items in his wood shop. He also continues to garden. Dona, a lifelong artist, retired from driving students with special needs with First Student Transportation. She still creates beautiful oil paintings, including scenes, abstracts, still life arrangements, portraits, and Christian art.

The Bootses volunteered for many years delivering food to the elderly in the community through Meals on Wheels. Don and Dona have always been ready to lend a helping hand or reach out to those in need – whether driving friends to doctors appointments or just by being a friend or mentor to someone when needed.

Don and Dona have been blessed with four children: Don Boots, Jr. of Ellwood City, PA; Carrie Havranek and husband Gary of Beaver Falls, PA; David Boots and wife Michelle of Lincoln City, OR; and Christie McDonough and husband Ed of Evans City, PA. In addition to their children, they have six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
