WEEKLY ROUND-UP: Ellwood City Sports

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL:
The Lady Wolverines volleyball team split a pair of matches this week and now sits with a 6-3 record overall, and a 4-2 mark in section play.

First on Tuesday, Ellwood City fell to Laurel 3-2 on the road. After taking the first set, the Wolverines dropped the next two sets, but rallied to even the match with a fourth set victory. In the pivotal fifth set, Ellwood City fell 15-12 to Laurel and dropped the section match.

The Wolverines rebounded on Thursday, easily defeating Beaver Falls in straight sets 3-0 on the road. Ellwood City collected set victories 25-10, 25-9, and 25-5 in the section victory.

Ellwood City next will host rival Riverside on Thursday, September 28th at Ellwood City Lincoln High School gymnasium.

ELLWOOD CITY GOLF:
The Ellwood City Golf team finished its regular season with a 206-227 section victory over Laurel on Thursday at Green Meadows Golf Course.

Jordan Keller and Mitch Covert scratched out rounds of 39 for the victors while Carson Cappello fired a 41. Nate Kennedy (43) and Colten Crizer (44) rounded out the scoring for the Wolverines. Eli Bintrim shot a match low round of 37 in defeat for Laurel.

Ellwood City finishes the regular season 8-5 Overall (7-5 Section), narrowly missing the playoffs. The team next turns its focus to a Tam O’Shanter Tournament on Tuesday, September 26th at 9:00 a.m.

ELLWOOD CITY TENNIS:
The Wolverines dropped their lone match this week, falling to Neshannock 4-1 on Monday. Kailyn Hamilton collected the lone set victory (6-2, 6-2) for Ellwood City. The Wolverines finish their regular season at 2-5 Overall (1-5 section) and will next turn their focus to WPIAL Singles.
