Phyllis Vetica, 89

Mrs. Phyllis Vetica of Ellwood City passed away on Monday, August 21st, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Vetica was born on June 16th, 1934 in Ellwood City to the late Salvatore and Elizabeth (Perry) Galati. Phyllis was a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1952, and graduated from Garfield Business Institute. She worked at Edelman’s Shoe Store in Ellwood City and at Babcock and Wilcox Steel Mill in the Personnel Department. She is a member of the Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church and Christian Mothers. She enjoyed all sports, especially Notre Dame. She dedicated herself to raising her children and treasured being with her family and babysitting her grandkids. Sunday was always a special day at Grandma Philly’s with her homemade cooking. Phyllis was a beautiful soul. Her life focused on family and God. She prayed the Rosary every day for family and friends all of which was a great comfort to her. She was dearly loved for her kind and caring heart.

She is survived by her sons David (Shari) Vetica of Patterson Heights, Beaver Falls and Jim (Andrea) Vetica of Ellwood City and her daughters Patty Vetica of Ellwood City and Sharon (Tim) Marsh of Imperial. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren Jared, Justin and Jenna Vetica and Kyle and Michael Broderick and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rudy Vetica, Nov 20, 2018 who she was married to for 62 beautiful years and a sister Teresa Bennett.

The family would like to thank her caregivers Melinda and Amy for their compassionate and loving care and BreAnne and Nikki and Allegheny Health Network Hospice Care.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Monday, August 28th at 11:00 am at Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church with Father Joseph Freedy officiating. A private family entombment will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery, St. Peter’s Mausoleum. Members of the Christian Mothers are asked to meet at the church by 10:50 am to form and honor guard. The funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc..

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Vetica’s name may be made to Divine Grace Social Services or to St. Jude Research Hospital for Children in lieu of flowers.
