Dennis “Denny” L. Cortez, 67, of North Sewickley Twp. passed away on Saturday, July 29th, 2023 at the PAM Hospital at Heritage Valley Medical Center in Beaver.
Denny was born in Ellwood City on June 26th, 1956 the son of the late David R. and Katherine (Kast) Cortez. He had graduated from Lawrence County Vocational School in New Castle having learned the welding trade with the class of 1975. Denny had many different jobs, mostly truck driving and delivery. He most currently drove for Ellwood Transit. He is a member of the Lillyville Church of God where he served as a youth leader as well as a trustee for several years. An outdoorsman, Denny enjoyed deer hunting, and loved to take his dogs pheasant hunting. He was a huge fan of all Pittsburgh sports, especially the Steelers.
Denny is survived by his wife and soulmate Cheryl (Aiken) Cortez whom he married on November 6th, 1987, daughter Lindsay French (Chris Samaras) of New Brighton, son Joshua Cortez of Ellwood City, grandchildren Chase (Sapphire), Karter, and Presley French, and Brynley Samaras, great-grandchildren Jeremiah Walls, Kayleigh, and baby French (coming in October), and his sister Debbie (Skip) Sturges of Chester Virginia. He is also survived by his father-in-law Donald Aiken, brothers-in-law Larry, Doug, and Buck (Vicki) Aiken, many loving nieces and nephews, and his dog Mia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Cortez, and mother-in-law Esther Aiken.
Denny’s family would like to thank Dr. Kaul for his exceptional care.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 2:00 pm until the time of the service at 5:00 pm at the Lillyville Church of God in Franklin Twp.. The funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.
Memorial contributions may be made to Denny’s family to help with medical and final expenses.
