Nancy J. Uber, 77

Nancy J. Uber, 77, of New Castle (formerly of Wayne Township) passed away late evening Saturday, July 8, 2023 at UPMC – Jameson Hospital.

Nancy was born on February 10, 1946 in Ellwood City to Earl W. and Martha Eleanor Craven Hennon.

She attended Chewton and Shenango Schools before graduating from Ellwood City in 1964. Nancy was happily married to her late husband Fred Paul Uber whom she met at church, for nearly 36 years until his untimely death in 2009. Before her marriage, Nancy first worked at Sam Zohosky’s Economy Chevrolet Dealership in Ellwood city as a bookkeeper then later at Jean’s Flower Shop, also in Ellwood City.

A devout Christian, Nancy was a member of the New Castle Seventh-Day Adventist Church for over fifty years. During that time, she served in various capacities, including, deaconess, church clerk, and treasurer. With a strong desire to aid in spreading the truth of God’s word and the plan of salvation, Nancy would work tirelessly during church evangelistic efforts. She also ran many Fellowship Dinners for her church family where her fellow church members were the beneficiaries of her excellent cooking. Before joining the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Nancy attended the Chewton Christian Church of which she had fond memories.

Family was important to Nancy. She always strove to honor her parents and to care for them in whatever they needed. Her sister Violet was not only her sister but also her best friend. They were two peas in a pod, together always. Even into their elderly years Nancy and Violet were often collectively referred to as “the girls.”

Nancy’s greatest joy was being a wife and mother. She and her husband Fred handled all of life’s ups and downs together as partners and equals with love, humor, and sometimes a good healthy dose of yelling. Her daughter Martha was the apple of her eye. From the moment of her birth, Nancy wholeheartedly devoted herself to caring for and supporting Martha whether life, health, school, or work events.

Reading, watching old TV shows, coloring and drawing, sewing, and crocheting, were but a few of Nancy’s favorite past times. Bible study was a constant throughout her life. She started teaching her daughter from earliest childhood about the Bible and God’s plan for mankind.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, sister Violet, and husband Fred. She leaves behind her daughter Martha who stayed with her through her last breath and her sister-in-law Rose Uber Cottle. Martha is forever thankful to have had a mother who loved her so much that she taught her about life, how to lovingly care for others, God, and right from wrong. She never did succeed in teaching Martha how to crochet! But she did succeed in passing the Hennon love of flowers and gardening to her daughter.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday July 12, 2023 from 12:00 pm until the time of the Funeral Service 2:00 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main Street Wampum.
Pastor Michael Ehm will officiate.

Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery.
