ON DECK: Riverside Faces Mohawk For 2-Game Series After Gavin’s Walk-Off Beats Lancers On Friday

Riverside enters its final week of regular season play off a thrilling walk-off victory on Friday courtesy of a Mitch Garvin walk off double.

Riverside (15-0 Overall, 10-0 Section 1-3A)  look to wrap up its undefeated regular season with a home-and-home two game series against Mohawk beginning Monday. The Panthers will travel to Mohawk Monday afternoon for a pivotal 4:30 p.m. section contest against the Warriors.  Mohawk only has two losses in section play, including a walk-off loss to Shenango last week, but can play spoiler to the Panthers playoff aspirations.  Both Riverside and Mohawk have clinched playoff berths from Section 1-3A but overall seeding remains to be seen and the Panthers could earn a #1 overall seed in WPIAL Class 3A with victories this week.

On Friday, and after a back and forth affair, the game was tied at three in the bottom of the seventh when Garvin doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. The Panthers entered the final frame trailing by a run after the visiting Lancers scored two runs in the top half of the seventh to jump ahead.

Christian Lucarelli started the game for Riverside. The ace went six and a third innings, allowing only one run, before running into trouble in the seventh and giving way to Hunter Garvin in relief.

Garvin earned the win thanks to the walk-off after allowing one run on one hit and walking zero.

Luccarelli struck out ten Lancers and only issued two walks.

Ashton Schlosser went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Riverside Baseball Varsity in hits. Schlosser collected a double in the seventh inning that plated the game tieing run.

Cam Foy took the loss for Neshannock. The bulldog lasted two and a third innings, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out five. Jacob Walzer started the game for Neshannock. The hurler allowed zero hits and zero runs over one-third of an inning.
