ECASD Board of Directors Holds Regular Meeting

The Ellwood City School District’s Board of Directors held their regular meeting on Thursday, April 13, 2023.

The following motions were passed during the meeting:

  • Motion to approve March 6, 2023 Committee Meeting Minutes, March 9, 2023 Regular Meeting Minutes, and March 27, 2023 Special Meeting Minutes.
  • Motion to approve the General Fund Accounts Payable Report.
  • Motion to approve Adoption of Resolution, as presented by Bond Counsel, authorizing the issuance of General Obligation Bonds, in an amount not to exceed $23,235,000, in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Unit Debt Act, for the purpose of funding the completion of capital improvements to School District facilities.
  • Motion to accept the following resignations: Loretta Barry and Mary Huett.
  • Motion to approve Laurie Boyd, Instructional Aide, as a Volunteer Track Coach for the 2023 season.
  • Motion to approve coaches who will receive extended season pay.
  • Motion to hire Athena Gubish as a four and a half hour cafeteria worker retroactive to March 30, 2023 in accordance with current SEIU Local 32BJ Non-Professional Bargaining Unit Agreement.
  • Motion to approve the attached list of SEIU and professional staff hired for summer help in accordance with the current SEIU Bargaining Unit Agreement.
  • Motion to approve the following facility requests:
    1. Soccer coach is requesting the use of Helling Stadium for a High School Soccer camp from Monday, June 19 through Thursday, June 22, 2023 at a time to be determined at the Athletic Director’s discretion.
    2. Ellwood City Wrestling Boosters is requesting the use of the LHS Big gym, or small gym, or cafeteria for a Wrestling Clinic under the guidance of a NCAA Wrestling Champion from 9:30 a.m to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023.
    3. Ellwood City Basketball boosters is requesting the LHS big gym for a youth girls basketball clinic for girls entering grades 3-6 on Fridays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m, Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and Sundays 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the following dates: June 2,3,4, July 7,8,9 and August 4,5,6 at the discretion of the Athletic Director.
    4. EC Community Enrichment requests the use of the Sgt. Leslie H. Sabo Jr. Memorial Auditorium in case of inclement weather only, on the following Saturdays for their summer concert series. June 17, July 15, July 22, July 29, August 5, and August 12, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m.
  • Motion to approve disposal of the following items from Lincoln High School in accordance with Policy 706.1:
    1. Safe
    2. Printer in business office – does not work.
  • Motion to approve Change Order EC-3 for Electric construction at an additional cost of $6,315.00.
  • Approve the following field trip/social event requests:
    1. Shelly Miller, is requesting to take approximately 120 grade 8 students on their annual trip to Kennywood Park by bus on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. The bus would depart LHS at 9:00 a.m. and return at approximately 7:00 p.m.
  • Motion to approve the MIU IV Intergovernmental Agreement for 2023-2024 between MIU IV and the District for the provision of education services by MIU IV to the District.
  • Motion for the following new/revised policies be put on display for review until the next board meeting and then be recommended for approval:
    Policy #137 Home Education Programs
    Policy #137.1 Extracurricular Participation by Home Education Students
    Policy #137.2 Participation in Cocurricular Activities and Academic Courses by Home Education Students
    Policy #137.3 Participation in Career and Technical Education Programs by Home Education Students
  • Motion to approve the Allegheny Intermediate Unit Joint Purchasing Agreement for the 2023-24 school year.
  • Motion to approve the Transportation Contract with the Portersville Christian School for the 2023-24 school year at a cost of $137 per day for a total of $24,797.00 per year shared with the Riverside Beaver County School District.
