Ellwood City made quick work of Blackhawk Tuesday afternoon at Stiefel Park, earning head coach Gary Rozanski his 200th career coaching victory.
The non-section contest was halted after five innings as the Lady Wolverines mercy ruled the Cougars 15-1.
The Wolverines started quickly Tuesday as Amber Mcquistion knocked in Julie Nardone with a single and Sara Schwarz knocked in two more with a line drive to right field to make it 3-0.
Blackhawk cut the lead to 3-1 in the third inning as Patterson hit a solo home run to left center field.
Ellwood City effectively put the game away in their half of the third inning with a ten run outburst. Mcquistion added to her 5-RBI afternoon with a three-run double off the center field fence to plate Kiley Leviere, Nardone and Aliya Garroway. Lexi Beck, Keira Rozanski, and Natalie Gillin all collected RBIs in the big offensive inning. Leviere executed a squeeze bunt to perfection scoring Rozanski in the inning.
The Lady Wolverines scored the final two runs in the fourth inning as Nardone walked with one out and scored on another double by Mcquistion. Schwarz added another RBI single to right to bring Mcquistion home.
Mcquistion led the 13 hit attack with four hits including two doubles. Schwarz added three singles (3 RBIs) and Kalantzis contributed a double. As a team, Ellwood City worked to earn nine walks at the plate.
Schwarz got her first win of the season in the circle as she scattered five hits over five innings of work. The Sophomore right hander fanned five and walked just 1 batter.
The Lady Wolverines are back to section play on Wednesday with a home game vs the Beaver Falls Tigers. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
