Ellwood City Softball Drops Section Opener

The Lady Wolverines came out on the losing end of a 3-2 score Monday at Hopewell High School and lost their section opener.

In a pitchers dual that saw 21 strikeouts between pitchers, the Viking had more timely hitting as all three of their runs came with two outs.

Ellwood City rallied in the seventh inning, but fell short. Kiley Leviere scored as Aliya Garroway’s soft line drive was misplayed by the third baseman and Amber Mcquisition brought Julia Nardone in with a deep sacrifice fly to left field.

Garroway led the Wolverine sticks with two hits while Mcquistion and Keira Rozanski each added singles to the cause. Freshman Mcquistion was the tough luck loser as she scattered 6 hits over six innings while fanning 9 and walking just one.

First pitch on Wednesday night is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Steifel Park as the Mohawk Warriors come to town for the Section Home Opener.

Lady Panthers Stay Unbeaten

The Riverside Lady Panthers improved to 4-0 on the season with a 4-2 victory over Shenango at home on Monday.

Samantha Rosenberger struck out 13 batters while allowing only three hits and no earned runs in her victory in the pitcher’s circle.

Aliya Ottaviani went 2-3 with two RBIs. Mia Williams had a double.

The Panthers scored three runs in the 3rd inning thanks to a leadoff hit in he gap by freshman Joci Cummings. Tessa Rosenberger bunted to move the runner for Ottaviani to get one of her RBIs for the afternoon.

“The top of the order did their job by hitting and moving runners,” said head coach Geri Cummings.

The Panthers next host Neshannock at 4:00 p.m. next Tuesday in section play.
