Hayden Slade, a senior at Lincoln High School, has been named a National Merit Finalist in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Over 1.5 million students entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT (PSAT)/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as juniors. This year’s nationwide pool of 15,000 Finalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. Finalists must also have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
His finalist status makes Slade eligible to be considered for one of 2,500 National Merit $2,500 Scholarships, corporate scholarships, and college-sponsored National Merit awards.
The son of Doug and Jennifer Slade of Perry Township, Slade is an Eagle Scout and the co-founder/co-director of Games to Give, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides board games to children in need, deployed US troops, and cancer patients. He plans to attend college to major in computer science and mathematics.
Last year Slade received a proclamation from Mayor Anthony J. Court in March 2022 and also earned first place of the Pennsylvania State Society Daughters of the American Revolution’s (PSSDAR’s) Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award in June 2022.
