Annual Ellwood City Easter Egg Hunt Returns, Under New Guidance

The Ellwood Area Egg Hunt Committee is announcing their retirement.

With their 27th Annual, and final, Community Easter Egghunt completed last year, the committee has retired and has turned the event over to new guidance.

The Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce will now be hosting the community Easter Egg Hunt event.

This year’s event will take place Saturday, April 8th as their 1st Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt.

Scheduled to take place at 11:00 a.m. in Ewing Park for all area children ages 10 and under, this year’s Easter Egg Hunt will run the same as in the past with a few changes.

“This is the same event, just done by a different organization,” says Kathy Brenner. “Please donate or volunteer to help make this year’s event successful. Remember this is a community event and it’s for our children and our future.”

The Ellwood Area Easter Egg Hunt was originally organized in 1995, with the idea to give the children of our community a day dedicated just to them and where ever child got toys, candy, prizes, and Easter Eggs. Over 3,000 children attend the 1st Easter Egg Hunt and thousands have roamed the grounds annually since.

The original members of the group are Bill Betz (served 25 years), Kathy Brenner (27 years), Shirley D’Amico (passed away), Chris Hardie (25 years), Mary Post (25 years), and Ron Prokovich.

Brenner would like to thank other members that have volunteered over the year.  A list that includes Carla Sabatino Aggostinelle, Jon Bobbin, Sharon Cohen, Brian Damon, Rick Deloia, Sherri Greco, Dave and Ann Hunter, Shannon McClymonds, Rob Magnifico, Jeff and Cindy Magnifico, Cathy Pansera, and Dawna Poole.

Over the year’s the event has had many appearances and activities ranging from petting zoos and pony rides to hayrides and trackless trains. The Pirate Parrot, Ronald McDonald, magicians, balloons artist, clowns, bounce houses, obstacle course, and The Carnegie Science Center have all made appearances. Sac races, egg decorating, crafts, games, and the Ellwood City and Franklin Township Fire Departments round out the entertainment that have made the egg hunt a success.

“And for 27 years Hoppy The Easter Bunny had made an appearance to hand out candy and eggs for all the children,” added Brenner.

The committee would like to thank the following for all their help to make the egg hunt successful: The Color Center, Brian Bush, Ellwood City Council, Ellwood City Street Dept., Randy Gatto, Ellwood City and Riverside football players, Ellwood City and Franklin Twp fire departments, The D’Amico Family, the Aggostinelle Family, the Post Family, the Magnifico Family, the Brenner Family, T and M Hardware and Rental, Medevac Ambulance Service and the Ellwood City Library.

“A very special Thank You to all of the business, groups, organizations, and individuals who over the past 27 years that have made donations to our organization,” concludes Brenner, “We truly are grateful for our community who helped us create this event. Thank you.”
