Michelangelo “Mike” Nocera, 84

Mr. Michelangelo “Mike” Nocera, 84, of Ellwood City passed away on Thursday, February 9th, 2023 at the Heritage Valley Medical Center in Beaver.

Mike was born on December 14th, 1938 in New Castle to the late Antonio “Tony” and Margherita (Parente) Nocera. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1956. He enlisted with the United States Army on December 1st, 1961 and served until his discharge on December 2nd, 1963 with the rank of Sergeant. Throughout the years Mike worked at John’s Shoe Shine, Gus’s Shoe Shine, U.S. Steel Tube Mill, Aetna Standard Engineering Company in the accounting department, Wexford Post Office, Paragon Diaper Factory, Seneca Valley School District as a custodian, and Ellwood City Area School District at the Harman Elementary School also as a custodian. He served as Commissioner for the Ellwood City Men’s Softball League for 23 years, and was part of the chain gang at Ellwood City Wolverine’s football games. For 25 years Mike was the announcer at Ellwood City Wolverine’s baseball and football games. Mike is a member of the Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church, American Legion, Sons of Italy #608, and MOOSE Lodge #93. In his neighborhood he will be remembered as the “Statue Man”.

He is survived by his sisters Louisa (Frank) Carrozza of Ellwood City, and Olga (George) Sabo of Naples, FL, brother Arduino (Carol) Nocera of Ellwood City, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Anthony Nocera in 1940.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-6 pm at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church at 10:00 am with Father Carmen Damico officiating. Interment will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the church on Monday by 10:45 am to conduct full military honors.
