Richard Foster Moreland, 85, late of Wampum, PA passed away peacefully on, January 4, 2023.
Richard was born December 15, 1937 to the late Beatrice Crandell and Foster Corwin Moreland in St. Louis, MO.
He was married on January 15, 1966 in Seattle, WA to the love of his life, the late Julia Lee Scott Moreland, who predeceased him in 2009. Richard was a scholar and a gentleman. He attended college at Central Methodist University, obtained a Master’s in Physics from University of Missouri and his Ph.D. in Engineering Physics from University of Oklahoma in 1969. For most of his career, he worked in the medical physicist field in oncology, retiring last from D3 Radiation Planning in Pittsburgh, PA. Richard and his wife, Julie, raised and showed Siberian Huskies during much of their married life and the dogs were a joy to them both. He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Lisa Lineback of Columbus, OH (Scott) and granddaughter, Allison Purcell.
The oldest son of 5 children, Richard is survived by sisters Karen Moreland LaGrange (Don) of St. Louis, MO; Lynn Moreland Schwent of Richmond, VA and sister-in-law Susan Horn and family in Seattle, WA; and brothers Alan Moreland (Marsha) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Kent Moreland (Laura) Jefferson City, MO. Several nieces and nephews and friend and counselor, Rita Young of Pittsburgh, PA., also survive him. He loved muscle cars, chocolate and Siberian Huskies. He and his kindness toward those around him and those he loved will be missed.
A Memorial Service for friends and family will be at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 97 Grim Ave, Ellwood City, PA 16117 on January 28, 2023, 1-3 p.m.
