For the newly hired Ellwood City Borough Manager Kevin Swogger, community development and management have been a long-time staple in his career.
The 1985 Ellwood City graduate is rounding out his wide range of experience with a hometown position that will allow him to invest in the future of his community.
Swogger, who lives in the Ewing Park neighborhood, has the background necessary to keep the borough moving forward. He was in the Airforce for 23 years, traveled all over the world, and enjoyed a prestigious 10-year special duty assignment interior for Air Force One.
“I worked under three presidents and got to meet a lot of dignitaries,” he said. “I’ve had a really great career for a small-town kid.”
In his free time, Kevin likes to spend time with his family including his Fiance Michelle Archuleta; his daughter Megan who is also an Airforce Veteran; and daughter Ashley who works for the Post Office in Wampum. Kevin also loves Pittsburgh sports.
“I love all the Pittsburgh sports,” he said.
Swogger looks forward to really getting into his role and working with all the departments within the borough.
“I met all the department heads and they all seem to be a great group of leaders,” he said. “I think I am very lucky to have that. They are very experienced. They seem to already be working well together.”
He also believes that Ellwood City’s biggest strength is its people.
It’s a small community, and the people want to make it great,” he said. “There are a lot of successful businesses and new ones are establishing and growing. There are a lineup of amazing events like the Festival, Christmas in the Park, the small business days, Wander Ellwood and many more.”
And Swogger has taken notice of a core group of community members who consistently work to make it better.
“I’m looking forward to working with everybody and building upon that spirit of community, bringing more businesses, jobs, and things to keep area kids busy.”
Some initial things on Swogger’s agenda are the budget for next year, some new and upcoming projects, and filling some positions in the coming year.
“I want to continue building upon all the great things that David Allen has accomplished.”
Swogger plans to approach his new role with one thing in mind.
“It’s important to care about the community and want to make it better, and I do care,” Swogger said. “I am very humble and lucky.”
Congratulations Gomer!
