Beaver, Butler County Projects Receive a Combined Total in Excess of $7.2 Million

HARRISBURG – Four Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grants, with a combined total of $7.225 million, have been awarded to projects in Beaver and Butler counties, according to Sen. Elder Vogel (R-47) and state Rep. Rob Matzie (D-16).

The majority of that grant funding total – $4.5 million – went to Cozza Enterprises, LLC, located in Ambridge Borough, for the first phase of the construction of the Ambridge Community Center Sports Complex.

“While this is only the start to this project, the facility will be a great benefit to the local community,” said Vogel of the complex.

Also receiving funding are the following projects:

G&B Development Hopewell LLC has received $1.75 million for work on the Hopewell Business Park in Hopewell Township, Beaver County. The funds will be used for the construction of public improvement including the extension of Commerce Way and a bituminous-topped access road, storm drainage system, potable water system and sanitary force main.

A $750,000 grant was awarded to the Beaver County Industrial Development Authority to develop a brownfield site in Aliquippa City for the construction of market-rate housing.

The Butler County Tourism and convention Bureau received a $225,000 grant to acquire the land in Butler Township for the “Born and Built in Butler” Museum.
“These grants are focused on helping communities, be it for economic development, improved housing access or promoting local tourism,” said Vogel.

Added Rep. Matzie about the Beaver County projects: “Bringing tax dollars home is one of, if not the most, important facets of serving as a state legislator. RCAP funds are competitive and come from a limited pool of dollars. They are not randomly allocated. If a project meets the set criteria, it is up to the individual legislators, through experience and expertise, to champion those projects and secure the funding. I am proud to have done so for these worthy ventures.”

RACP is administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act. They must have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity.
