Helling Stadium to Open to Guests, Spectators, Athletes for Homecoming Game

Ellwood City Area School District will open the gates to the newly renovated Helling Stadium on Friday, October 14 in its first home game of the season against Beaver Falls.

The game starts at 7 p.m., and the district is excited to invite the public to take the first peek at the new stadium.

“We are excited to open the field for our homecoming game on Friday, October 14th,” said Superintendent Wesley Shipley.

In addition to the stadium’s athletic contest debut on homecoming, a game which will crown a queen at halftime, the district will also host a ribbon cutting open house on Monday, Oct 17th. The gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and the official ribbon cutting will take place at 7 p.m. with the event ending at 8 p.m.

“We invite the community to walk the track and field after the ribbon cutting,” Shipley said. “We’ve asked the band to perform and also asked the football and band boosters to open their concession stands.”

The track will be open to the public for walking, but there are restrictions that must be followed. Rules are posted at the stadium.

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors approved the stadium project in April and awarded it to Fred L. Burns, Inc., Shippenville, Pa, at an overall cost of $2,562,405.

The major portion of the project was the installation of Turf at a cost of $2,420,000, which included removal of dirt, addition of drainage, and labor. In addition to the Turf, the track was resurfaced with a long-lasting synthetic material at a cost of $64,150 and $7,380 for the school colors to be added. Electrical work, including wiring to the poles, work on the timeclock and other electrical work was also included in the project at $42,850. The fencing was replaced at no cost.
