In its continued battle against COVID-19, Butler Health System will be offering the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine. This protein subunit vaccine is authorized for people 12 years old and up. Its primary series is two doses, 4 weeks apart. Unlike other currently available COVID-19 vaccines, the Novavax shot contains no mRNA or viral particles, only a protein, making it similar to the annual influenza vaccine. The CDC currently recommends that people who get two doses of Novavax should later get a bivalent booster (from Pfizer or Moderna).
In addition, Butler Health System will once again host pediatric COVID-19 vaccine clinics. The young pediatric Moderna (age 6 month to under 5 years) and pediatric Pfizer (5 years to under 12 years) will be available. Each of these is a two-shot primary series, given 4 weeks apart. Children age 5 to under 12 who are due for a booster (with this monovalent vaccine) may also schedule. A parent or legal guardian must accompany children for all vaccinations.
Our bivalent Pfizer booster clinics remain open for scheduling. These boosters are authorized for everyone 12 years and older who is 8 weeks or more out from their most recent COVID-19 vaccine.
MPX:
On top of all of these COVID-19 vaccines, we are also hosting additional clinics for the Jynneos monkeypox (MPX) vaccine. Eligibility for this vaccine has been expanded significantly, making it available to more people. The vaccine is a two-dose series, given 4 weeks apart.
Additional Information/Scheduling:
Information about these vaccines, including any eligibility requirements, is available on the BHS website (www.butlerhealthsystem.org) along with links to scheduling these various clinics. Please note that some clinics are held at Butler Memorial Hospital but most are held at the Crossroads Campus nearby.
