Ellwood City Co-Ed Golf Team is enjoying some early season success, collecting victories in its first two matches of the season.
The Wolverines opened up the season with a home victory over Union on Friday (223-259) and collected another victory at home on Tuesday, defeating New Castle (214-256).
On Friday, three Ellwood golfers – Jordan Keller, Nathan Williams, and Mitch Covert – posted rounds of 44 to pace the host Wolverines. Colten Crizer was low man with a score of 43 while Mady McCommons posted a round of 48 to round out the scoring for Ellwood City. Rocco Galmarini posted a team low round of 44 for the Union Area Scotties.
On Tuesday, Mitch Covert fired a sparkling round of 40 to lead the Wolverines to its victory over New Castle at Del Mar Golf Course. Keller (42), McCommons (43), Crizer (44), and Nathan Williams (45) rounded out the scoring for Ellwood City. Josh Hendgron posted a low round of 44 for the visiting Red Hurricanes.
The Wolverines only have two seniors this year and a lot to learn according to head coach Sam Barry.
“We are in the process of a slight rebuild because of the loss of five starters, including the section’s best player Milo Sesti, from last season,” says Barry. “However, we have a tremendous amount of young talent stepping up already. Freshman Jordan Keller has already emerged as one of those players.”
Ellwood City (2-0 Overall) will next travel to Stonecrest Golf Course on Thursday for its first away match of the young season. The Wolverines will battle Mohawk with an 11:00 a.m. scheduled start.
