Louis A. Conte,90

Louis Andrew “Lou” Conte Sr., 90, passed away peacefully on Monday June 13, 2022, at Northview Senior Living in Ellwood City. He was born on September 2, 1931, to the late Emil “Shorty” and Mary (Szabo) Conte and grew up in Ellport.

Lou was a graduate of Lincoln high school where he played football and excelled in track and field. He was a Korean war veteran, proudly serving in the U.S. Army. On October 19, 1952, he married Sana (Sally) Ottaviani at the BVM Church in Elwood City. Together they raised five boys and were proud grandparents to four granddaughters. Lou was employed by Ryman Engineering as a welder/fabricator in Ellwood for over 30 years.

In early years, he loved helping coach his son ‘s Little League teams. He and Sally were very proud supporters of all their children’s sporting events, never missing a game. Lou was an accomplished wood and iron craftsman, with a creative mentality, making such things as his own lathe tools, barbeque grill, hand carved wooden train sets and floating tubes with wooden bottoms for the kids to swim in the creek.  But, more than anything, he loved making his own Christmas decorations. His creations were on display inside and out, ranging from a waving Santa, a custom-made village that accompanied his train sets, to a homemade fireplace to hang the Christmas stockings.  His displays brought a smile and Christmas spirit to many.

Lou was an avid fan of all Pittsburgh sports, rarely missing a televised game, and loved watching the old westerns. He served his community delivering “meals on wheels” for over 25 years and was a regular blood donor, giving over 10 gallons.

He is survived by his sons; Louis (Mary) Conte Jr. of Littleton CO, Randall Conte of Englewood CO, Jeff (Jill) Conte of Moon Twp., Kevin (Sandy) Conte of Phoenix AZ, and Ethan Conte of Lawrenceville PA; Grandchildren, Jacqlyn Conte of Chicago IL, Jenna Conte of Littleton CO, Allaire Conte of New York City, and Kallie Conte of Moon Twp, his sister Helen (the late Jack) Bowers of Ellport, brothers in law; Norman Ottaviani of Ellwood City, and Joseph (Earla) Ottaviani of Houston TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.
