Jeffrey Bales To Speak at EC Historical Society

Jeffrey“Jeff” Bales will be the guest speaker at the upcoming Ellwood City Area Historical Society meeting on Monday evening at 7:00 pm.

Jeff Bales Jr., a native of New Castle, currently lives near Culpeper, Virginia.

While growing up, Bales and his family lived in such places as Scotland, Morocco and Guam. He attended nine different schools on four continents, including the former Wampum Public School and Koppel Elementary, where he finished third grade. Jeff maintains a local history website known as Lawrence County Memoirs. The site contains a collection of photos, postcards, articles, stories, and other tidbits pertaining to the history of Lawrence County in western Pennsylvania and surrounding areas – particularly the northern portion of Beaver County to include Koppel and Beaver Falls.

Jeff makes frequent trips to the area while exploring hidden locations, taking photos, and meeting new people. He established his website in 2009 and it’s continued to grow and grow. Jeff has relatives in the Chewton and Wampum areas. Jeff’s collection of postcards, photos, and other old images of Lawrence County has grown considerably and continues to grow.

He estimates to have collected about 8,000 old images of Lawrence County and neighboring counties and has personally taken over 40,000 photographs of sites throughout the county.
