ROUNDUP: EC/RHS Baseball Teams Sweep, EC Softball Cruises To Victory

Ellwood City and Riverside baseball teams both collected victories on Monday while the Ellwood City softball team cruised to another victory.

Magnifico, Wolverines Beat New Brighton 3-1

Nick Magnifico allowed just four hits to New Brighton en route to a complete game victory as the hosting Wolverines rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to secure a come-from-behind victory.

Magnifico also sparked the offense in the sixth inning with a two-run single.

Joseph Roth, Ashton Wilson, and Alexander Roth (1 RBI) also each collected one hit for Ellwood City (1-2 Overall) who earned their first victory of its season in the first of a home-and-home series with New Brighton. The Wolverines will travel to play at New Brighton on Tuesday.

Bobby Budacki took the loss for New Brighton. The pitcher allowed four hits and three runs over six innings, striking out three and walking zero.

Riverside Claims Victory Over Neshannock

Riverside Panthers Varsity defeated Neshannock 5-2 on Monday.

After scoring in the opening frame, Panther slugger Bo Fornataro smashed a solo homerun in the third inning to stake Riverside to a 2-0 lead.

The Panthers scored three runs in the fifth inning. The offensive firepower by Riverside was led by Drake Fox and Madden Boehm, all driving in runs in the frame.

Shawn Kristophel got the win for Riverside. The righthander lasted three innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking one. Christian Lucarelli and Garvin entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Garvin recorded the last six outs to earn the save for the Panthers.

Boehm and Fornataro each racked up multiple hits for Riverside, now 4-0 overall in the young season.

Jacob Walzer took the loss for Neshannock. The hurler went two and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on one hit. Sebastian Coiro started the game for Neshannock. The bulldog surrendered three runs on seven hits over four and a third innings, striking out three.

Ellwood City Softball Cruises Past Keystone Oaks, 21-5

Ellwood City built off an impressive 17-1 victory over New Brighton last week with another offensive powered 21-5 win over Keystone Oaks at Stiefel Park on Monday.

The Wolverines scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning to stake to an early lead and then laid on a 12-run third inning that helped invoke the mercy rule.

Eight of the nine started collected multiple hits led by Julia  Nardone who finished 4-4 at the plate. Aliya Garroway knocked in a team-high 5 runs with her three hits, including a home run. She fell just a single shy of the cycle.

The Wolverines slugged 12 extra base hits in the contest. Nardone collected the victory for the Wolverines.

Ellwood City will next travel to face Quaker Valley on Wednesday afternoon with a 4:00 p.m. first pitch scheduled.
