The Riverside Lions recently got involved in two noteworthy causes.
The club got to help distribute a large amount of donated leftover Christmas candy, cookies and bake goods to six different organizations.
“We were able to give to Riverside Angel Fund, Ellwood City School District, Beaver Falls School District, Central Valley School District, Holy Redeemer Social Services and the Portersville Food Bank,” says King Lion Chip Campbell.
A final amount of candy was distributed at the club’s anniversary party.
“That was a pretty rough time, we had a tremendous amount of candy in two thirds of our living and dining room till we finally whittled it down to just a few bags,” added Campbell.
The donations took place over the course of several weeks and, according to Campbell, was a tempting treat not to divulge into.
“Do you know how hard it is to walk past all that candy, day after day,” says Campbell. “In reality it wasn’t hard at all, I didn’t. When I’d walk by I’d say look how small they are and they have peanut butter in them. Isn’t peanut butter good for you? What harm could come of eating that little thing. None! That’s what I keep telling myself.”

The club also had the opportunity to participate in a state wide Lions relief effort for the tornado victims in Kentucky.
King Lion Campbell is the District 14N Emergency Coordinator who helped gather up relief supplies to ship to tornado victims in Kentucky.
The plan was to have three stops that included Lancaster, Harrisburg and Cranberry, but the club far exceeded expectations.
The Lions managed to not only fill an 18 wheel trailer with much needed tools, clothes, food stuff and so much more they had to call in another truck, because the first truck was full after the second stop according to Campbell.
“We were able to fill the second truck two thirds full, just from the Districts in Western PA,” said Campbell.
Once down in Kentucky, the truck was to be opened by the International President Doug Alexander.
