Ellwood City Wolves Club To Give “The Pro Bono Publico” Community Service Award

Mike DeOtto, President of the Ellwood City Wolves Club Den 2, announced this week that the Club will be giving an outstanding community service award to a local individual, student, or group who resides in the Ellwood City Area School District or the Riverside Beaver County School District.

The award is called “The Pro Bono Publico Award” which means for the good of the public.

The Wolves Club has appreciated the support that both communities have given in their various fundraising projects throughout the year, such as; the food booth at the Fourth of July Festival, the Fall Festival and the Golf Bash. The money raised from these projects enabled the Wolves Club to provide scholarships to the students in the Ellwood City Area and Riverside Beaver County School Districts.

Six Wolves Club Scholarships were given last year to three Ellwood City students and to three Riverside students. The total value of the scholarships amounted to $15,000 last year, $7,500 to Ellwood students and $7,500 to Riverside students.

The Pro Bono Publico Chairman, Raymond Santillo, stated that in order to show appreciation for the great support the Wolves Club received from both communities, that the Wolves Club will be recognizing any individual or group who are making significant contributions in their communities through their time, actions, talents and dedication (outside any voluntary work done for their employers or being paid for their project or accomplishment). This award will be given throughout the year at the Wolves Club Meeting.

The Pro Bono Publico Committee Members, Anthony Buzzelli and Frank Aloi further stated that the individual or group receiving this award will have consistently demonstrated qualities of compassion and service by doing a variety of activities in one or more years. This award is to recognize the efforts of a few in order to benefit many in the community. In order to receive this award, the project, the activity, or the accomplishment must be completed within a five-year period. The five year period will start on January 1 of the year and go back five years to determine the five year period.

Any member of the Wolves Club could nominate a person or group to receive this award. If a person from the community would like to nominate a person or group for this award, they should contact any member of the Wolves Club to make the nomination for them.

The recipient for this award should meet the following criteria:

  1. The degree to which the service, the actions, or the accomplishments made a meaningful contribution or impact on the community.
  2. The length of the service, the actions, or the accomplishments.
  3. The extent that their service, their actions, or their accomplishments may be considered above the call of duty.
  4. The extent to which their service, their actions or their accomplishments would be recognized by their peers or community leaders.

Any person from either community who would like to join the Wolves Club should contact President Mike DeOtto or any member of the Wolves Club.
