Opal Jane Nye McConahy, 90, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021.
Born in Ellwood City on October 12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Catherine and Theron Nye. Opal graduated from Jackson High School in Canton, Ohio. She was the past president of the Ellport School PTA and she also worked many jobs in the Ellwood area. Opal had worked at her uncle Bill Hinkle’s store in Ellport, she was the first post master in Ellport, she was also the head cashier at Christy’s and Value King, she worked at Hinkle’s bedspread store and was the receptionist at Pore Boy Auto Body owned by her late son, John, in Beaver. Opal’s favorite job was being a volunteer at the Ellwood City Hospital. She loved working there.
Opal is survived by her daughter, Bonnie McConahy of Perry Township, her daughter-in-law, Valerie McConahy of Beaver, a grandson, John McConahy, III and a granddaughter, Michelle (Bill) Hiler and great grandchildren, Adam and Olivia, a sister, Pinkey Streiber and a brother, Jack Nye and many McConahy and Nye nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Besides her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her husband, John Addison McConahy, her son, John A. McConahy, Jr. and her aunt and uncle, Bill and Margaret Nye Hinkle who helped raise her.
Friend will be received at the Joseph A. Tomon, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 97 Grim Avenue, Ellport on Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 7 to 9 PM.
Funeral Services will be private, interment will be in Slippery Rock Church Cemetery.
Family suggests no flowers. Contributions to the family can be made through the funeral home or contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
I remember Opal very well from working with her at the Ellwood Hospital . I worked in admissions and she was a very kind and wonderful volunteer and friend . I still have her pie crust recipe she gave me years ago . My deepest sympathy to the family 🙏♥️
