EC Lions, Wolves, Rotary to host Meet and Greet Event

Many of you think of delicious festival food when you hear the names Rotary Club and Wolves Club—yes, the delectable lamb dinners and sausage sandwiches are definitely memorable—but these clubs along with the local Ellwood City Lions Club do so much more than just tempt our tastebuds.

And the community will have the opportunity to learn about the clubs and their service opportunities and camaraderie during an upcoming meet and greet hosted by the Ellwood City Lions Club. On November 11 from 6 to 8 p.m., club leaders and members will be available at Vinny’s Restaurant for questions and to invite new members.

Ellwood City Lions Club President Karrie DeMarco said she is looking forward to educating the public about the Lions Club’s missions and where local donations are spent.

“We are looking for new energy, new ideas, and new volunteers so that we can do more,” she said.

The Lions, Wolves, and Rotary are all service organizations where members become volunteers for events that serve communities locally, nationally, and, sometimes, globally.

Rotary Club President Doug Slade said he is looking forward to reinvigorating the club’s presence in Ellwood City.

“Covid has been extremely hard on our clubs service wise, for fundraising efforts, and for the social aspect of it,” he said.

According to Slade, he did not know much about Rotary until he joined but has come to learn that the organization is full of kind people who do amazing things for the community.

Both DeMarco and Slade said this meet and greet is not only an opportunity to learn about club functions and to encourage membership, but to also see where the money goes.

“Ellwood City is such a generous community,” DeMarco said. “Residents will be able to see where all the money they donate goes to.”

DeMarco has been a Lion in Ellwood City for three years now after moving here from Texas. She served as a Lion in Texas with her mom and decided to continue serving when she arrived in Ellwood.

As part of her service, DeMarco has had the opportunity to change lives locally and globally as part of the Lions efforts to improve vision in underdeveloped countries.

Slade agreed with DeMarco that club involvement helps alter lives in the community.

“All three clubs do tons for the community,” Slade said. “Especially for the youth.”
