Tenaris Celebrates The Reopening Of Its Manufacturing Facilities in Koppel & Ambridge

Tenaris marked the reopening of its manufacturing facilities in Koppel and Ambridge, Pennsylvania, with a ceremony at its Koppel melt shop – Tenaris’s first steel mill in the US.

Tenaris US President Luca Zanotti was joined by US Congressman Conor Lamb (PA-17); State Senator Elder Vogel; State Representative Aaron Bernstine; State Representative Jim Marshall; Beaver County Chairman Daniel Camp; Borough of Koppel Acting Mayor Athena Pangikas-Miller; Borough of Ambridge Mayor David Drewnowski; amongst other community stakeholders and employees for the outdoor ceremony, held with COVID protocols in place.

Congressman Lamb, who represents the 17th district of Pennsylvania, which includes Beaver County, home of the company’s Koppel mill, shared a few remarks on the value Western Pennsylvania brings in skilled workers with expertise and infrastructure, stressing a need to build this out further. Congressman Lamb also honed in on the importance of the steel industry for serving the energy market and as an issue of national security, in preserving the Section 232 tariffs on steel as a measure to defend the sector from unfair competition, as well as the value of domestic manufacturing and having a tighter supply chain.

The Koppel steel mill completed its commissioning this summer following a year-long investment of more than $15M USD in upgrades. South of Koppel, in Ambridge, PA, the company’s seamless mill is now rolling pipe following a restart of the facility in August. In addition to the two manufacturing sites, Tenaris also operates a threading facility in Brookfield, Ohio.

“Ambridge is back, and our Koppel mill is producing to feed Ambridge and our Bay City, Texas, mill with a local supply of bars for seamless production. The reactivation of our facilities in the Northeast gives us greater flexibility to serve our customers’ drilling projects in the different basins with domestically produced solutions and a short supply chain – this adds value and boosts efficiency,” said Luca Zanotti, Tenaris US President.

Tenaris has expanded its teams in Koppel and Ambridge, currently at about 300 with plans for additional hires in the coming months.

“Our teams have done excellent work to safely and efficiently bring these facilities back online.” added Zanotti.

Tenaris has been increasing its industrial operations in the south and northeast, and growing its US team to support, with plans to incorporate 1,100 employees.
