The Ellwood City Area Historical Society has had fund drives since the early days of the formation of the Society, 33 years ago, with the purpose of the Society to collect, protect and preserve the artifacts of the history of our town and its surrounding area.
“The annual fund drive was becoming less effective in raising money to help cover our operating budget, says fund drive chairman Andrew Kindle. “More money was coming in toward dues payments then donations.”
The Ways and Means committee at the monthly meeting in June sat down to discuss the problem of low donations. The Society had always lived by a saying from 26th United States President, Teddy Roosevelt, “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”
In some years this meant leaving repairs or new programs on the table to next year.
The Ways and Means committee composed of, Everett Bleakney, Charles Brown, Robert Morabito, and Kindle, discussed the idea of a separate fund drive and to be held at a mid year.
The time picked to start was June 15, 2021, and end August 15, 2021. The goal for the fund drive was set at $5,000.00. Andy Kindle was assigned to lead the fund drive with a letter to ask for contributions and provide the mailing of letters.
Charles Brown, Society Treasurer reported to the Ways and Means committee on August 18 that the fund drive was over the set goal of $5,000.00. The moneys received will enable the Historical Society to support our on going programs, a Sports Award Program, renovations to the trolley, and help to develop our computerization of the artifacts and memorabilia.
“We are very grateful for the support and encouragement we have received from friends and members of the Society,” added Kindle. “The board thanks everyone for the support of the Annual Fund Drive. ……THANK YOU……”
