Two local events this week kick off the back to school season and highlight the fall sports season.
Riverside Panther night will be held on Thursday, August 26 at Riverside Memorial Stadium while Ellwood City will hold its annual Pie Festival on Friday, August 27 at Helling Stadium.
“Panther Night is a Riverside community event kicking off back to school and highlighting our high school fall sports teams,” says Christy Hughes. “We also include our high school band and youth football program.”
The gates for Panther Night open at 6:00 p.m. with the presentation of the Riverside teams beginning at 7:30. This is a rain or shine event. Admission is FREE.
Each Riverside booster organization has the opportunity to set up at the event to promote their fundraising. Many offer food items or a raffle ticket to help support the group. Among those notable booths are Riverside band who will be offering food items from the snack shack, the Varsity Cheerleaders that will have Vinny’s wood fired pizzas, and the Archery team that will have a bake sale.
“Many will be offering different kinds of apparel,” adds Hughes.

The band will perform their 2021 pre-game and halftime shows, all fall sports teams will be introduced, and you can, of course, have pie. The marching band is set to perform at 7:40 p.m. according to an itinerary made available by Lincoln High School.
The community event features delicious, handmade pies generously donated by Debbie’s Delicious Desserts.
Tickets are $5.00 and include pie and a bottle of water (while supplies last). Scoops of ice cream will be sold for $1.00.
Tickets are available from band students prior to the event and at the gate that day. Rain location is at the LHS gymnasium.
Events were not held last year due to COVID-19 safety precautions.
