Glenn Taylor Koach, 97

Glenn Taylor Koach, 97, passed away peacefully of old age on August 18^th 2021.

Glenn, the son of Roy W. and Edna Taylor Koach, was a lifelong resident of the Ellwood City area, being born and raised in Wurtemburg, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Lincoln High School and soon after enlisted in the Army Air Corp flying more than 25 missions over Germany as a B-24 tail gunner.  At the war’s end he came home to Wurtemburg to work in his father’s grocery store.   At this same time Glenn took advantage of the GI Bill taking night classes to earn his bachelor’s degree from Geneva College.  He was soon employed by Babcock & Wilcox and ended his career of 30 years as Accounts Payable Supervisor.  While working at his father’s store and going to college, Glenn met and married Helenann Tallon of New Brighton.  Glenn and Helenann celebrated 63 years of marriage before her passing in 2009.  They lived all their years in the Forest Hills area of Ellwood City surrounded by many good neighbors and friends.

Glenn was active in several organizations:  Junior Achievement of Western PA, The Beaver Mercantile Bowling League, Meals on Wheels, the Ellwood City Area Historical Society and The Ellwood Area Family Center where he and his friends spent many hours playing pickleball.  He was an avid reader of American history and particularly enjoyed local history, of which he remembered a great deal.  He was also very fond of the many pleasant days spent at the family camp on French Creek.  He was a member of the Wurtemburg United Methodist Church and a parishioner of the 1^st United Methodist Church in Ellwood City.

Survivors include a son, David J. Koach of Portland Oregon, a daughter and son-in-law Glenda and John Blinn, daughter-in-law Norma Koach, and son-in-law Steve Battaglia, all of Ellwood City.  A sister Janet (Fran) Gelzheiser of New York and sister-in-law Sue (Jack) Tallon of New Brighton.  Completing Glenn’s family were nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He especially enjoyed all their cards, letters, visits and phone calls throughout his long life.

He was preceded in death by his wife Helenann, son R. Walter Koach and daughter Carolyn Lee Battaglia; brother and best friend Lloyd (Phyllis) Koach and sister Eleanor (Wilbur) Boots.  He was also preceded by brother Ralph and sister Evelyn in infancy.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service Saturday, August 21st at the Wurtemburg United Methodist Church from 1 o’clock until time of service at 2:30.
