Ellwood City Man Charged With Carjacking, Robbery

According to a social media post from the New Castle Police Department, a 34-year-old Ellwood City man has been arrested after an incident on Monday.

According to the account, and on August 16, 2021, New Castle City Police Department (NCPD) officers were dispatched to the Dollar General store on Center Avenue in West Pittsburg in reference to a carjacking which had just occurred.

Responding officers spoke to the 82 year old female victim, she stated that a white male with dark hair and dark beard with tattoos had just thrown her out of her vehicle and drove away in her Nissan Altima.

Through the subsequent investigation, NCPD Detectives and Patrol officers were able to identify the suspect in this incident as Andrew Mercado, 34, from Ellwood City.

A BOLO was put out for the vehicle and MERCADO. NCPD officers had information that MERCADO may be in the Beaver County Area and did notify Beaver County Law Enforcement.

On August 17, 2021 the vehicle did register on a license plate reader in Chippewa, PA. Officers from Chippewa, Darlington and the PA State Police Beaver County did check the area for the vehicle. The Vehicle was located in the parking lot of the Walmart in Chippewa. Officers did arrest Mercado as he exited Walmart (with a buggy full of stolen merchandise).

Mercado was placed into the Lawrence County Jail on a previous bench warrant for Aggravated Assault filed by the NCPD. Charges of Robbery of a Motor Vehicle, Receiving Stolen Property, Assault and Harassment are being filed against Mercado in reference to the carjacking incident.

  1. This guy needs to be locked up for good. He was involved with stabbing incidents in Feb 2010,Jan 2016, and June 2021.Just google ” Andrew Mercado Ellwood city Pa ” I can’t believe he is still walking the streets.
