With COVID restrictions beginning to be lifted, more and more people are starting to head back to in person work. A lot of working class people have children at home to worry about and some don’t always have people to rely on for child care.
This problem is something that Mary O’Connor Bailey thought about when she decided to bring O’Connor’s Day Care to Ellwood City.
Bailey currently has five other locations in the New Castle area but wanted to bring her business to Ellwood City to help the working community here. Bailey graduated college with her business degree and then started to tutor children. Her love for working with kids grew and she decided to open up her first day care facility. She started out with a small building and not many supplies, but 33 years later, she has grown to have more locations with a full staff at each and more kids than she knows what to do with.
“I’m very excited to open here, I want to be a non-traditional facility and I feel I’m a good add on to the community and that I can make a positive impact here,” said Bailey.
Bailey is hoping to have the day care open and running by July 12th.
The day care currently is looking for employees that work well with kids and are flexible with hours. Bailey is hoping to offer 24 hour service as a way for parents to always have the option of bring their children there. For a full day of service the cost is $45.00 and for a half day the cost is $40.00. Parents can expect a safe and secure environment that also will help teach the children the basic building blocks of their lives. The day care takes children from the ages of 6 weeks old all the way up to thirteen years old.
Bailey also has instilled her strong belief in community service into her business. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Bailey educated the children in her daycare on what masks do to slow the spread and even had them make masks to wear. She even has had annual coat drives to help the community in New Castle. She has required that while the children are in her care, that they do some form of community service. The location of the day care is right next door to a Challenges facility, Bailey is hoping that once they are up and running the children will be able to do community service over there for the Senior Citizens.
Below are a few photos of the inside of the building.
