Douglas J. Carsele, 91

Mr. Douglas J. Carsele, 91, of Ellwood City passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 at the Carriage Manor Personal Care.

Mr. Carsele was born on January 10, 1930 in Ellwood City to the late James and Esther (Barile) Carsele, Sr.. He had graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1947. He enlisted with the U.S. Army on February 23, 1951 and served with the Company B 522nd Infantry out of Fort Sill, Oklahoma until his discharge on February 20, 1954. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze stars, and the Army Occupation Medal (Japan). Doug then worked for U.S. Steel in Ellwood City and later in Girard, Ohio. He also was an active member of the U.S. Army Reserve for 32 years with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He is a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish, the Veterans Honor Guard with whom he attended numerous funerals, and a past member of the V.F.W. Post 252.

He is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth “B.J.” (John) Biondi of Ellwood City, and Sister Mary Esther Carsele of Philadelphia, his sisters-in-law, Katherine “Kathy” Carsele of Ellport, and Mary Carsele of Ellwood City, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Lucy Ann Carsele and Rosemarie Fotia, and his brothers, Eugene Carsele, Donald Carsele, Jack Carsele, and James Carsele, Jr..

Family and friends are invited to a mass of Christian burial to be held on Saturday, April 17th at 10:00 am at the Holy Redeemer Church. Entombment will be at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Holy Redeemer Mausoleum. The funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematory Inc..
