RESISTING ARREST:
According to a Pennsylvania State Police Public Information Release Report, Andrew Mercado, 33, of Koppel, was charged with resisting arrest after a warrant was executed on February 10, 2021.

According to the report, Mercado was uncooperative and was subsequently charged with resisting arrest at a Wayne Township residence. Charges filed and will be pending through the District Magistrate Jerry Cartwright office. Mercado was incarcerated at the Lawrence County Jail.

PROBATION VIOLATION:
According to published reports, an Ellwood City man charged with pulling out a loaded handgun during an Ellport bar fight last year has been sentenced to two year’s probation.

Kameron Rudy, 25, had previously pleaded guilty to carrying an unlicensed firearm in exchange for more serious charges being dropped. He was sentenced in Lawrence County Court on February 2nd. Ellwood City police reported Rudy waved the handgun around during a March 15, 2020, dispute inside the Oak Grove Bar on Portersville Road.

HOMICIDE/OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING:
According to a Pennsylvania State Police Public Information Release Report, on Thursday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m., New Castle Police responded to a residence at South New Castle Street in Wilmington Borough, Lawrence County to assist the New Wilmington Police with an Officer-Involved Shooting.

Preliminary investigation has determined a w/h 24-year-old transgender female was assaulted by a male with a blunt instrument. Upon arrival of the New Wilmington Police Officer, both individuals were observed behind the residence.

The male suspect was observed to be assaulting the victim with the blunt instrument and was given commands to stop by the Officer. The male suspect continued to assault the victim at which time the New Wilmington Police Officer discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect.

The transgender female victim was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown where she later succumbed to her injuries. The male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
