The Ellwood City Girls Basketball team has collected two impressive victories at home this week.
On Monday, the Lady Wolverines secured a section win over the visiting Beaver Falls Tigers by a score of 48-44. Ellwood City was led by junior Kyla Servick who poured in 15 points. Senior Maria Ioanilli joined Servick in double-digits posting 12 points, including two clutch free throws at the end of the game. Senior Olivia Battaglia drained three 3-pointers for the victors and freshman Claire Noble and senior Chloe Sturgeon each chipped in 5 points apiece.
On Wednesday, the Lady Wolverines had nine players in the scoring column with their huge 67-28 victory over the visiting Union Scotties. Ellwood City used a strong first quarter, pouring in 31 points, to take command of Union early. Junior Kyla Servick led the Wolverines’ strong start as she collected 11 points in the first quarter. The Lady Wolverines extended their lead to a score of 49-13 at halftime which enacted the mercy rule for the remainder of the game. Servick finished the evening with a game-high 14 points. Following close behind was senior Maria Ioanilli who contributed 13 points. Three girls scored nine points including freshman Claire Noble, junior Grace Balin, and senior Chloe Sturgeon. Other scoring contributors for the team included junior Saige Chambers, senior Emily Borroni, senior Olivia Battaglia, and junior Emily Sedgwick.
Ellwood City (3-4 overall, 2-4 Section 1-3A) now looks towards its second trip through the section starting Thursday night as they travel to play #1 WPIAL and PIAA ranked North Catholic.

RELATED: On Tuesday Night, the Ellwood City Boys Basketball team lost to an undefeated Neshannock Lancers team 59-50 in overtime. The boys rallied late to force overtime, but could only score two points in the overtime frame. Alexander Roth led the Wolverines with 20 points (4 3-pointers). The boys basketball team (5-4 overall, 3-3 Section 1-3A) will next host Mohawk on Friday night.
