Senator Vogel Announces Railroad Grant; Reappointed Chair of Agriculture

New Castle Industrial RR Receives $262,500 State Grant

New Castle Industrial Railroad, Inc., was today (January 13) awarded a $262,500 state grant to construct a new 3,200-foot siding to expand its main line track capacity accommodating increased interchange traffic with CSX and NS railroads, according to Senator Elder Vogel.

“The efficient movement of goods is imperative for businesses to be successful,” Senator Vogel said. “This funding will help New Castle Industrial Railroad meet the needs of the industry and the local marketplace, which in turn should further expand family sustaining job opportunities in our area.”

Formed in 1992, the New Castle Industrial Railroad (NCIR) is a Class 3 “Common Carrier” servicing New Castle, PA and connecting local industry with CSX, Norfolk Southern, and Buffalo Pittsburgh Railroad.

Senator Vogel Reappointed Chair of Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee

Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman (R-34) today reappointed Senator Elder Vogel (R-47) to serve as Chairman of the Senate Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee, a post he had held since 2011.

The Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee considers legislation and holds hearings on issues pertaining to agriculture in Pennsylvania and provides review and oversight on regulations proposed by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

“I am honored to be reappointed by Senator Corman to serve as the Chairman of the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee,” Senator Vogel said. “I look forward to continuing our efforts to support agriculture in the Commonwealth, promote Pennsylvania-made farm products, and address the diverse issues facing the state’s rural communities.”

Last week, Senator Corman tabbed Senator Vogel to serve as Deputy President Pro Tempore for the 2021-22 Legislative Session. His other committee assignments are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Senator Vogel has represented the 47th Senatorial District — which currently includes all of Lawrence County and parts of Beaver and Butler Counties — since 2009. Senator Vogel and his wife Sue operate a family farm in New Sewickley Township which was established in the late 1800s.
